These black and white photographs of Crimea relate to the period of 1900 – 1915 of Russian Empire, and were taken by Russian photographer Vasily Sokornov. In the early XX Sokornov was the most famous photographer of Crimea, participant and winner of art exhibitions. Vasily Sokornov was born in 1867. He was interested in painting, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. During certain period, he enjoyed photography, starting as photo editor at a photo studio. At the end of the XIX century, Vasily Sokornov moved to live in the Crimea. He settled in a small village of Alupka, bought his first camera and all the necessary photo tools. He took pictures of the Crimean landscapes and sold first postcards of Crimea.
