2015 for the Moscow skater Evgenia Medvedeva turned out great: two stage wins Junior Grand Prix and in the series finale, and gold at the World Junior Championships. In addition, bronze in the championship of Russia among adults! Student of Eteri Tutberidze, and one of the most prominent Russian juniors capable in the near future to compete with the current leader of the team. Behind her huge eyes and delicate appearance – a strong character and the ability to go to the goal, without paying attention to what is happening around. And this is not too little for the 15-year-old girl.

Confident in herself, she knows clearly what she spends most of her life for, within the walls of the rink “Crystal.” This season gave her the confidence that if you go out on the ice to work selflessly, and the result is sure to come. About the anthem and flag Evgenia said: “For me, the anthem and the flag – are very important. I am not performing only for myself, but also, however pathetic it may sound, for history, and for the country. I am not just Zhenya Medvedeva there, I am Evgenia Medvedeva from Russia, my country, the Russian Federation”.

Medvedeva is the 2015 World Junior and the 2014–15 Junior Grand Prix Final champion. Besides, she is the senior 2015 Russian national bronze medalist and 2015 Russian junior champion. In addition, she is the junior-level ladies’ record holder for the highest short program score.

“I do not play computer games. I’m more into social networks, with a lot of talk, sitting in “VKontakte” groups … These are not only my friends, but also fans. There are those who simply write words of encouragement, and the children … I communicate freely with all. I do not see anything wrong with that”. According to her, she especially loves to share her photos on the Instagram. “I wonder how many people will look at my photos. I’ve got almost 5000 subscribers. I know that there are pages, which collect 10 thousand, and even a million. But on the other hand, if we imagine even these 5000 … It’s real people that are interested in you. Isn’t it enough?”

“The leader should possess such qualities as determination and responsibility. In fact, I took much from my grandmother in character. My grandmother is an engineer by profession, but my mother was a figure skater. Thanks to her, I saw figure skating competitions on television, and wanted to be a figure skater. And mom did not resist. On the contrary, strongly supported. Mom was not my coach, but helped and supported in difficult situations”.

“And now I listen to her. But not as much as before. I have a coach, and I look into her eyes. I can discuss something with my mother, of course, but I work with a group of a large team. And they are my coaches Eteri Tutberidze and Sergei Dudakov, ice choreographer Daniel Gleyhengauz and choreographer Galina Podtykova”.

“I go out on the ice and work for myself. And for my country. And at first it was the desire to learn to move gracefully on the ice. In general, I still aspire to it. I love the aesthetics. Do not like it when the skater is piling up in the movements, the details of the costume. I like the image of a discreet, sophisticated, like a porcelain figurine. Looking how beautifully, gently the partner is moving in ice dancing, I think: what if to combine their moves, sliding with jumps and spins?”

“The quest for beauty is in everything. I always take care of myself. Manicure, make-up – every day. Even in training. I have to always be beautiful! And the same – with clothing. I try to dress stylishly. I love branded stuff, for example my “Dolce & Gabbana” sweater. But I have an internal filter. However, I am working a lot and I think that now I can afford what I deserve. Clothes for training all the time, too, I select carefully. Gloves, for example, with cut fingers to manicure be seen …”.

According to Evgenia, her coach encourages this. “I remember when I was just a child, she constantly reminded us: “carelessness in hairstyle and clothes are unacceptable for you. You all should be accurate. You are public people to some extent, and you are watched all the time …” So, this woman teaches me everything, and gives me all that I have now. Besides, without her, my coach, I would be nothing.

Hardworking figure skater Evgenia Medvedeva

I don’t have an ideal skater, but I look: Carolina Kostner has a very noble look on the ice, Yuna Kim is very good at jumps, Mao Asada – very militant girl … I mean, I like all of them, and try to take some details from them.

Eteri Tutberidze: “Hard work is her most important talent. Evgenia is hardworking, this has been her main feature since she childhood. She never gave up, and she knew what to do. But the character – is another thing. So far, the results that she has achieved – she did a great job. I’ve been coaching her almost since childhood.

We understand each other, we have the same goals, the same attitude to work, to training, even we have the same sense of humor. While working with her was not difficult. For her, the main thing now – to keep this skill to work. Sometimes, hard work and talent are the most important, because without it, nothing will happen. I’m sure: to teach, to bring to the highest level is possible anybody. The main thing is to work with a child who is on the same wavelength with you. She is a good girl with a good sense of humor, it is also very important.
