Russian folk dance Khorovod means Round dance, Slavic holiday custom, and seems like so much fun. During this action boys and girls stand in a circle, hold hands and begin to move in the same direction. The result is fun and uncomplicated. That may be so, and most people’s interpretation of this term is quite sufficient and understandable. But it is something much deeper than it may seem to those who used to see only the external nature of things. The term “Runaround” origins in ancient Slavic culture, there are two kinds of round dance – posolon (in the course of the sun, or clockwise) and widdershins – upstream of the sun or a counterclockwise direction. Thus, once it becomes clear that the dance, even by its names – posolon and the sun – is directly linked with the luminary or divine manifestation.

There are also slow dances where participants sing ceremonial songs and slowly circle around and quickly when swift dance, and participants move to run. Often there are not just a whirling dance, and on the whole rituals, games, traditional merrymaking with its own laws and customs, with Khorovod makers, instigators or grooms who begin to move Khorovod, and other participants taking on different roles.

Many of those who participated in the Slavic dances, both conventional and those dances, which consist of several successive rings that turn in opposite directions, as well as those dances that do not consist of ten people, and a few tens or hundreds, noted the incredible rise of forces. What is going on? Some say that the lifting forces and the mood is due to the fact that while you are in rallying people who are close to you in spirit and you feel their strong support.

The second claim, that there is a mystical meaning, such as: open some invisible gate to a different reality through active meditation, the discovery of some mysterious forces of the body and soul through the mysterious ritual – a round dance.

The third explain it all by physics, allegedly several rings of people who move rapidly create ideal conditions for the emergence of objects between the rubbing weak electricity, so it is capable to charge electricity and emotional and physical condition of the people. Perhaps something of the three components of the excess, and it is possible that are taking place all three factors.

Dances originated in very distant times and happily still exist. Even then, people noticed the extraordinary features of this magical dance, which can be called Russian meditation, like any dance of the Sufis, Buddhist meditation, shamanic ritual.

During the round dance people sing ritual songs, play musical instruments. The participants are trying to put on their most beautiful outfits. Looks like this oldest Russian dance is beautiful and majestic even from the outside, to participate in such an action is to feel a sense of ownership of traditions of the pagan Slavs.
