Novosibirsk – the third most populous and twelfth in terms of area city in Russia, has the status of city district. The administrative center of the Siberian Federal District, as the city is the center of Novosibirsk agglomeration – the largest in Siberia. Commercial, business, cultural, industrial, transport and scientific center of federal significance. Founded in 1893, the status of the city received in 1903. Population – 1,547,910 people. (2014).

Novosibirsk is widely spread on both banks of the Ob River. Geographically, its central position between the other Siberian regions helps it to have the title of “Capital of Siberia.”
Novosibirsk is the city of 38 higher education institutions (13 universities, 9 academies, 16 institutes), in addition there are 14 branches of universities of other cities of Russia (including Moscow and St. Petersburg).

Unique Museum of Sun

Museum of Sun – the only museum of the Sun, located in Novosibirsk Akademgorodok. The basis of the museum is a private collection of images of the Sun and the solar gods of ancient civilizations made in wood based on archaeological finds. The museum contains about 2000 exhibits dedicated to the Sun – more than 500 of them – the author’s wood carving of the museum founder VI Lipenkov.

Russia’s only Museum of World Funeral Culture officially opened in Novosibirsk. The museum has been created by a local businessman – founder of Novosibirsk crematorium Sergey Jakushin. The exhibition features more than 10 thousand exhibits that are dedicated to the funeral traditions of the XIX century.
