The shape and decoration of the jug demonstrate continuity with the era
historicism. Many oriental allusions are guessed in the design,
which are difficult to accurately identify: this is ornamental ligature on the body
vases, and the “luxury” of color and carving, important for the Islamic tradition,
and the use of cabochons – round moldings on the base
and on the side, imitating precious stones. The pitcher comes from the 1st Reception
Emperor Alexander III in the Gatchina Palace, until 1941 was
in the collection of the Gatchina Palace Museum, then – in the Central Depository
Museum fund.
