Initially, these cameras were manufactured for military use and were called “hand held apparatus for photo-reconnaissance. The first “Photosniper” was released in 1937, the State Optical Institute on the basis of FED rangefinder & viewfinder cameras. Then a similar model called FS-2 began to produce at the Krasnogorskiy mechanical factory (KMZ). Photosniper model FS-3 and subsequent applied Zenit SLR cameras, which were intended for the consumer market.
