Museum of Kaliningrad Amber Plant replenished unique exhibit – Amber map of Russia, made of amber and precious metals. So, meridians and city names on it are made of gold, there are items made of silver and turquoise. Map is crowned with Russian coat-of-arms – from amber. The map area – 4.5 square meters. A group of artists of 12 people worked on this masterpiece of jewelry for several months. To create a unique mural inspired other jewel map of Kaliningrad region. It was made a few decades ago and now also the amber museum exhibit.

Collection of Museum of Kaliningrad Amber Factory, numbering hundreds of exhibits, began to emerge soon after the appearing enterprise. Initially, the museum occupies just one room, and now it is given several rooms. The collection includes works of Kaliningrad jewelers and amazing discoveries, such as the world’s largest natural amber specimens weighing more than 2 kilograms. – We have worked for almost three months – says jeweler Vyacheslav Darvin. – Each unit of the Federation – a piece of amber. It took 27 pounds of stone on creating the map. “Regions” are printed on the 3D-machines and polished by hand. It was in every sense a jeweler’s work: the border line between the regions of Russia is very uneven. According to Darvin, the chart is accurate to the millimeter. Besides amber craftsmen used turquoise – it was used for making the seas and the rivers, with gold – they engraved inscriptions – and silver – designated meridians.

The most interesting story was about the Crimea. – We were already in the Black Sea, when a referendum was held on the peninsula, and it became a part of Russia, – says Darvin. – The director of the plant asked whether it was late to add Crimea to our map.

It was not too late. For Peninsula we have managed to combine 170 grams of amber and 7.5 grams of gold. So we can say that the first Crimea appeared precisely on this very succinic map – even before the Internet.

The map will be stored in the museum, so that everyone could see it. Kaliningrad jewelers, said Vyacheslav Darvin, want to create another and the first amber globe.
